#RedStyle: Embrace Your Personal Style

DSC_0069

When RedEnvelope contacted me about joining their #RedStyle campaign, I was quick to jump.  Not only is RedEnvelope a company I’ve used for years for great gift ideas but the campaign is all about embracing your personal style.  I think what’s so fun about blogging and fashion is that we get to share with everyone our mood, inspirations, and style just by what we decide to put on that day.  I describe my personal style as classic with a twist.  I tend to gravitate toward classic shapes but also love fun pops of color and loud prints.  I also like accessories and such that have a little humor to it, like my Kate Spade donut bag or the “Shopping is My Cardio” Wildfox sweater.  I included my mary jane Manolo Blahniks because they are the very first designer thing I ever purchased.  They’re classic is shape but the twist is the bright and shinny patent leather.  A perfect epitome of my style!  As far as jewelry goes, I’m usually getting ready in a rush so I like to be able to grab something like a giant Samantha Wills ring or a huge gold chain vintage necklace.  A statement piece can really pull your look together!

Another aspect to my style is blending designer pieces with stuff I’ve found at the Goodwill or vintage shops.  That’s truly when I feel most me.  The gorgeous gold and black lace skirt and the beat up old Coach crossbody bag are probably some of my most favorite things in my closet!  I have no problems with second hand clothing and sometimes it’s amazing what you’ll find!  It’s just what you didn’t know you always wanted!

How do you describe your personal style?

Monday Must-Have Lust List: Isabel Marant for H&M Edition

Every once in awhile, something is so exciting that it trumps all other news.  That’s how I feel about the Isabel Marant for H&M collection and why it gets its own feature for my weekly Lust List.  I feel like all these designer/big name retailer collaborations is really exciting.  The quality seems like it’s just getting better and better.  Remember the Alexander McQueen for Target years ago?  It was like Target got the cheapest material ever for the designs and I didn’t end up keeping a single item!!  I want that collab to be redone now that it’s becoming such a common thing and quality is taken more into consideration.  The Isabel Marant for H&M designs are so perfectly executed that you’d be hard pressed to find something bad about the pieces.  They scream “designer” without that hefty price tag.  My alarm is set to be online at promptly 9AM (PST) on November 14th to hopefully swoop up a few swoon-worthy pieces from this highly anticipated collection.  If you’re near a physical store, the doors open at 8AM (Local Time) for your shopping fun.  If you are lucky enough to get your hands on any of this collection, Tweet me your score @WanderingHeels.  I want to share in your shopping glory!

Kilauea Caverns of Fire

Kilauea Caverns of Fire

We knew this place was going to be amazing when we called and Steve responded with so much enthusiasm about showing us the lava tubes.  Especially when he told us he had already headed home but was “totally cool” with coming back.  Normally I would have just waited until the next day but since we were on our last few last days in Hilo, we took Steve up on his offer.  I’m so happy we did!!  Granted, driving there I was pretty sure we were entering the beginning scene of a scary movie.  You know… the part where the tourists are super stoked to be somewhere remote but there are spooky yellow eyes peeking out from the brush ready to pounce?

We were greeted by Steve’s dog Cinnamon and all the creepy feelings went away.  The lava tubes are absolutely amazing.  There’s a beautiful sparkly bacteria on the ceiling of the entrance that looked like the night sky when you shined your flashlight on it.  Steve knew everything about how these spectacular lava rock formations were formed.  When we were fairly deep into the tube, we all turned out our flashlights to feel true darkness.  You literally can’t see your hand in front of your face!!  It’s such a unique feeling.  I highly recommend a visit to the Kilauea Caverns of Fire on your next visit to The Big Island of Hawaii.  It’s truly a fantastic experience!

This amazing lava rock was formed at the exact moment a rock dropped into hardening lava but was still fluid enough to ripple.

The iron content in the rock is what forms all the different colors of lava rock.

Matsumoto Shave Ice

Shave Ice

While visiting Oahu, I think it’s a mandatory stop to pick up some shave ice at the famous Matsumoto Grocery Store.  I’d like to point out that in Hawaii, it’s called Shave Ice not Shaved Ice.  The line was horrendous all the days we were there but we finally decided to brave the masses.  It wasn’t so bad and the line moved really quick since they have a perfect assembly line set up.

I got the Hawaiian flavor (I mean… we’re in Hawaii afterall!) which was 3 flavors of Pineapple, Coconut, and Banana.  Frankly, it’s a little bit too sweet for my taste so I couldn’t finish it.  But for the fun and experience, it was totally worth it! Especially since my giant (truly a size small) was only $2.50!

Done with Summer

Last days of Summer

I’m crossing my fingers that this will be my last summer weather post.  It’s so toasty warm here still that my sweaters haven’t awoken from their hibernation boxes quite yet. However, there is still hope!  Tonight was the first night that there was actually a chill in the air!  So I might be just about ready to be done with summer and dressing for fall.  So excited!!  In the mean time, I’m still all about color… not that you couldn’t tell!

My Look for a Hot Day

Outfit of the Day

I don’t know about where you guys are but here in San Diego it’s still hotter than Hades! Oh and the humidity is like one million percent!  So that being said, it’s a mini skirt and tank kind of day.  I still need to bring a jacket since everyone has the A/C blasting to arctic levels so a little jean jacket is the easiest thing to throw on and stay stylish.

Orange and blue is my favorite color combo so when I picked out this skirt this morning, it was a total no brainer for me to pair it with an orange tank.  I kept accessories in the same color family too with accents of gold.  I can’t wait for it to cool down though!  I’m ready for some fall fashion!

Stay cool and Stay classy!
