LookBook: Mini Road Trip

DSC_0068Sometimes one night away is all you need to hit the refresh button.  With Fashion Week San Diego’s Spring Showcase as our excuse, we set out on a mini road trip to Harrah’s Casino for the night.  Along the way, we stopped for a bit of wine tasting (my favorite thing!) and strolled along these beautiful orange groves.  The trees were blooming and the scent was divine!  The air smelled like warm honey and fresh squeezed orange juice so strong it was shocking.

#MyVegasStyle: Pool Look

DSC_0059

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Las Vegas many times throughout my life.  I’ve gotten to do the girls trips, the family trips, and the ultra romantic trips.  That’s the beauty of this desert destination.  There is truly something for everyone!  That’s why I felt totally qualified to do a few style postings about how I would style a trip to the Aria Las Vegas for the lovely people of Vegas.com.  This hotel is absolutely stunning and a premier Vegas destination, so how could I pass up something like that?

Of course, whenever I visit, I start my days at the pool so that’s where we will start my styling posts (even though I’m in San Diego for the pics).  To me, Vegas is all about glitz and glamour all day and all night.  So don’t be afraid to add some fun accessories!  Of course, you’ll need your beach bag for tons of sunscreen, magazines, and a bit of cash for a poolside beverage.  Go for some short shorts and nude sandals for a great leg lengthening effect.  Just be careful with your shoe choice.  Don’t be the girl at the pool at noon in stilettos.

Lust List: Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette Review

Naked 3Man, this Urban Decay Naked 3 palette was on backorder forever!  So happy it’s finally here!  The colors are a really nice array of rosey tones so I thought this would be perfect for my skintone.  Not to mention I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with all things rose gold.  It’s been really fun testing all the colors and doing lots of combinations to find out what works for me.

DSC_0013Aren’t they pretty?!  There’s a perfect combination of shimmer, matte, light, and dark tones. The colors are rather sheer but have a totally buildable quality to them.  And when paired with one of the generous samples of Eyeshadow Primer Potion, they just last and last and last and last… get where I’m going with this?  Good.  I need to add another step to my beauty routine like I need to put a hole in my head but the Primer Potion was so incredible, I decided the extra 15 seconds a day was totally worth it.  The Eden color is what I use now and I actually put it under my eyes as well!  Stays put all day and the nice beige matte gives me a good even foundation to play with the eyeshadows on.  The trick is to use just a teenie tiny itty bitty amount of the Primer Potion.  It goes a long way and actually works better if you use less!  On another note, I’ll be totally honest with you guys (as I always am!), I don’t like the double sided brush that come with the palette.  It’s way too stiff for my liking.

DSC_0016As you can see, a lot of the really light colors get a little lost on my skintone.  For me, the first 4 colors are used as a subtle rosey base or to add a little sheen on top.  Otherwise, they’re essentially invisible.  Urban Decay did a pretty great job sticking to the rose gold category but not making every color seem like just one step darker than the next.  There are probably a million possibilities in this thing!  Here’s one of my go to favs…

DSC_0034I use Strange as the base which is a slightly pink matte color up to my brow.  Then use Buzz over the lid and added just a hint of sparkle to the inner corners with Dust.  Topped it all off by lining my eyes with Blackheart on both the top and bottom and added some mascara. Voila!  This is one of my favorite combinations to go from day to night.  We’re all busy ladies!  Not needing to touch up your makeup from one thing to the next is a major added bonus!

All in all, this is a great palette that will be nice for travel since you can do day AND night looks all in one.  Bravo, Urban Decay, Bravo!

Birthday on the Beach: Coronado, CA

Me at Coronado BeachI’m getting to the age now that most of my friends are getting married and having kids.  So what that means is there are a lot of fun times to be had celebrating these life events!  Today, we celebrated our good friend’s daughter’s third birthday on the beach in Coronado.  It’s a gorgeous day for some fun in the sun: we splashed in the water, played with bubbles, and enjoyed some yummy cupcakes.

The water was too cold for my liking so I stuck to the shore in some bermuda shorts, a bandeau top, and a cover up.  Of course, I needed my trusty UPF 50+ protection hat to shield my face.  I want to look 25 when I’m 50 after all!!  Who doesn’t?!  This Wildfox coverup is one of my favorites!  It’s perfect for walking around a beach town or over your swimsuit.  I topped off my look with a chunky ocean inspired necklace (I’ve worn it before, remember?).

The Beaded Day Skirt

Beaded Skirt Day StyleWhy should beads and sparkles be reserved for the night?  Why doesn’t the day get to have any fun?  I vote we all start wearing pieces originally reserved for happy hours and nights on the town out in the daylight!  Hear Hear!!

I love all my sparkly intricate pieces but they often just sit in my closet unworn.  It doesn’t make sense though because these pretty gems could easily be styled down a bit and worn wherever you darn well please!  I toned down the beadwork on this Zara skirt by adding a simple shaped Brian Lichtenberg ‘Homies’ T-shirt and a light denim Zara shirt.  Since the skirt has enough bling on its own, I kept accessories simple with just a few basic silver rings.  Carpe Diem, you beautiful skirt!!

Isn't the beadwork on this skirt simply gorgeous?
