LookBook: Tutti Frutti

c12I’m not sure why but I love food shaped/printed clothing and accessories.  They just make me happy in the silliest way possible!  This watermelon clutch is no different.  It’s essentially the easiest conversation starter too!!  I originally thought pairing it with this raspberry print dress would be too much but… whatever!  Summers call for flowy silk dresses.  I love how light this dress feels!  It’s going to be an easy choice for the upcoming super hot San Diego days.  Gladiator sandals are really ‘in’ right now and I like the subtlety of these ones.  They’re kind of a pain in the buns to get in and out of since there is no zipper and I have to relace them every time.  Ah the things we do for fashion.

FWSD Preview Lunch: Bjashi and Responsive Textiles

DSCN2296Fashion Week San Diego is teasing us again with an amazing sneak peek of two designer’s looks for the October showcase.  We sipped champagne and ogled over the incredible talent it takes to create pieces of this caliber.  The knitwear from Responsive Textiles is created entirely from one string of yarn.  That means no cutting and sewing pieces together.  Amazing!  And Bjashi mixed her Native American heritage with couture fashion creating looks that are beyond unique.  Just take a look at some of these deigns!  I also added pics of my look to the event with my new Responsive Textiles necklace!

LookBook: Spring Transition

chelshoot2-4In San Diego, transitioning from winter to spring isn’t as extreme as most places (I’m looking at you, New York!) but there are a few things I look forward to still.  I move my heavier coats into the garage and dig through my shorts to remind myself and my white legs what I own.  I’ve come to embrace my paleness and don’t bother with sunless tanners anymore.  I get tempted by the latest greatest sunless tanners on the market but I’ve never found one that looks quite right.  Oh well!!  I’m still taking these pale legs out!  My favorite way to transition into spring/summer is to wear shorts with a sweater or jacket.  It’s a comfy easy way to layer for the cool evenings.

P.S.- I found this rad Chanel bag at a consignment store here in San Diego.  I basically fell on the floor when I found it.  My momma taught me never to pay full price for anything (not that buying a Chanel 2.55 full price was ever an option)!  Try checking out online consigners like Shop-Hers or TheRealReal to score your designer deal.

Nordstrom Designer Preview

IMG_20150319_192106243OMG.  The Nordstrom Designer Preview is my absolute favorite show I get to help put on every year.  Who wouldn’t want to touch all these beautiful art-like pieces of designer clothing… and get paid for it?!  Even more so, it’s inspiration for my real life looks for the coming season.  Here are my favorite outfits from the event.  P.S. – My birthday is coming up if anyone is looking for ideas. *wink wink*

LookBook: Mini Road Trip

DSC_0068Sometimes one night away is all you need to hit the refresh button.  With Fashion Week San Diego’s Spring Showcase as our excuse, we set out on a mini road trip to Harrah’s Casino for the night.  Along the way, we stopped for a bit of wine tasting (my favorite thing!) and strolled along these beautiful orange groves.  The trees were blooming and the scent was divine!  The air smelled like warm honey and fresh squeezed orange juice so strong it was shocking.

Coronado Beach Day Look

DSCN0245Sometimes a day of relaxing on the beach with the girls is the best R & R you could ask for.  I got a really annoying sunburn a month or so ago and now I’m hyper about making sure I’m protected from the sun.  I want my super pale skin looking as young as possible for as long as possible!  Other than caking on tubes of sunscreen, I wore a UPF 50+ hat and a long maxi dress topped with a luxuriously soft white Equipment blouse.  Take that, Sunshine!

#FWSD Viva La V Series – Stefan McKellar

DSCN0096

Fashion is so much more than just clothes.  It’s accessories, handbags, shoes, and even luggage.  That’s what I had the pleasure of experiencing at the first Fashion Week San Diego Viva la V series featuring Stefan McKellar at the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla.  His luxury luggage is so wonderfully full of detail that it is a perfect blend of the past and present.  It evokes memories of vintage train cases while remaining very of-the-moment.  It’s classy tough girl chic at it’s ultimate finest.  This is the type of luggage that is not to be checked but carried with pride through the airport to your next adventure.

I am so very much looking forward to seeing more at Fashion Week San Diego this year (Sept. 29th-Oct. 5th 2014).  Purchase your tickets to the show now!  See you there!

My look to this day time fashion event was a simple and classic sleeveless sweater dress by Kate Spade.  I love dresses you can either dress up or down depending on the event.  Expect to see this one a lot over the holidays when I’m dashing from party to party!

You Win… This Time

Ok, Take One Pass It On Challenge.  You win… this time.  It was totally a terrible idea for me to take on the burden of the Take One Pass It On Challenge knowing I had family coming for 10 days and was starting a new job.  Oops!  So I didn’t really get enough outfits into the challenge to really consider myself a winner.  Here’s my remix round up of what I did get accomplished.  Next time though… I’ll be more prepared to take this challenge by the horns!  Promise!

Take One, Pass It On Challenge

DSC_0101How often do you stand in front of your closet and think, “I have nothing to wear!”  Chances are that’s a total lie and we’re just not feeling creative that day!  That’s why when I read about Sarah’s Real Life Take One, Pass It On Challenge I so wanted in on the fun!  The idea of the challenge is to take one item from the previous day’s look and pass it on to the next look.  For example, today’s outfit is a comfortable flowy top and twill turquoise pants.  I’ll be passing on the top tomorrow for a completely different look!  Then I’ll pick one piece from tomorrow’s look and pass it on to the third day’s outfit!  Get it?!  P.S.- You can’t repeat an item more then once.  So I can’t wear the same shoes for 30 days and call myself a winner… that’s just plain cheating!

It’s so easy to get stuck in a routine of wearing certain tops with certain bottoms.  Most of our stuff is so much more versatile then we give them credit for!  I’m going to try this challenge for a full 30 days!  I know, it sounds totally nuts but it’s time for a closet overhaul without buying a ton of new stuff I don’t really need!  Thanks for the great idea, Sarah!

DSC_0099Today’s look was casual, causal, and more casual… with sparkles!  I mean, isn’t every day better when you’re wearing sparkly shoes?!  These kitty flats are just the pick-me-up I need on a blah morning.  It’s also fun to add an unexpected lip color during the day too. Here I’m wearing Maybelline Lipstick in Vibrant Mandarin.

#RedStyle: Embrace Your Personal Style

DSC_0069

When RedEnvelope contacted me about joining their #RedStyle campaign, I was quick to jump.  Not only is RedEnvelope a company I’ve used for years for great gift ideas but the campaign is all about embracing your personal style.  I think what’s so fun about blogging and fashion is that we get to share with everyone our mood, inspirations, and style just by what we decide to put on that day.  I describe my personal style as classic with a twist.  I tend to gravitate toward classic shapes but also love fun pops of color and loud prints.  I also like accessories and such that have a little humor to it, like my Kate Spade donut bag or the “Shopping is My Cardio” Wildfox sweater.  I included my mary jane Manolo Blahniks because they are the very first designer thing I ever purchased.  They’re classic is shape but the twist is the bright and shinny patent leather.  A perfect epitome of my style!  As far as jewelry goes, I’m usually getting ready in a rush so I like to be able to grab something like a giant Samantha Wills ring or a huge gold chain vintage necklace.  A statement piece can really pull your look together!

Another aspect to my style is blending designer pieces with stuff I’ve found at the Goodwill or vintage shops.  That’s truly when I feel most me.  The gorgeous gold and black lace skirt and the beat up old Coach crossbody bag are probably some of my most favorite things in my closet!  I have no problems with second hand clothing and sometimes it’s amazing what you’ll find!  It’s just what you didn’t know you always wanted!

How do you describe your personal style?
