LookBook: Simplicity

chelshoot2-35Sometimes a little simplicity can go a long way.  Not every outfit needs to be full of color and patterns.  A simple look like this relies on the fit of the clothing to make it chic.  I also matched my bag to my shoes to make the look appear more intentional and not just grab-and-go.

LookBook: Plaid and Perfume

DSC_0037

Normally I’m the most girly of all girly girls but sometimes I just need a comfy top and denim type of day.  Scored this ridiculously soft Bella Dahl top at the Bloomingdale’s friends and family sale.  It’s so soft it’s like daytime appropriate pajamas!  The high side slit gives it a little more of a sexy vibe than its “I borrowed this from my boyfriend” counterparts.  If you aren’t being ironic by pairing your plaid shirt with a fluffy skirt or sparkles than distressed denim is just an easy “Do”.

This perfume bottle purse is just too fun for words.  We spotted this gem walking home from dinner one night and I had to go back and get it the next morning!  It was at one of my favorite vintage and novelty shops in San Diego called Bad Madge.  It’s a fantastic destination for unique gifts and really really cool vintage pieces.

LookBook: Mini Road Trip

DSC_0068Sometimes one night away is all you need to hit the refresh button.  With Fashion Week San Diego’s Spring Showcase as our excuse, we set out on a mini road trip to Harrah’s Casino for the night.  Along the way, we stopped for a bit of wine tasting (my favorite thing!) and strolled along these beautiful orange groves.  The trees were blooming and the scent was divine!  The air smelled like warm honey and fresh squeezed orange juice so strong it was shocking.

Up In The Air

image

Man, I am so not a fan of flying.  I love travel, experiencing new places and cultures, and sampling my way through new foods but I just don’t like the act of travel.  So I distract myself by taking pictures, reading magazines, and catching up on shows like Game of Thrones and The Sopranos that I’ve downloaded.  These pics are from my last flight to Washington for a bit of crabbing and 4th of July festivities.

#MyVegasStyle: Pool Look

DSC_0059

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Las Vegas many times throughout my life.  I’ve gotten to do the girls trips, the family trips, and the ultra romantic trips.  That’s the beauty of this desert destination.  There is truly something for everyone!  That’s why I felt totally qualified to do a few style postings about how I would style a trip to the Aria Las Vegas for the lovely people of Vegas.com.  This hotel is absolutely stunning and a premier Vegas destination, so how could I pass up something like that?

Of course, whenever I visit, I start my days at the pool so that’s where we will start my styling posts (even though I’m in San Diego for the pics).  To me, Vegas is all about glitz and glamour all day and all night.  So don’t be afraid to add some fun accessories!  Of course, you’ll need your beach bag for tons of sunscreen, magazines, and a bit of cash for a poolside beverage.  Go for some short shorts and nude sandals for a great leg lengthening effect.  Just be careful with your shoe choice.  Don’t be the girl at the pool at noon in stilettos.

Book your trip to the Aria Las Vegas here: http://www.vegas.com/resorts/aria/

How to Wear a Statement Necklace

DSC_0239One thing I love about summer is it really motivates me to get out and explore my own city.  It’s silly how often we just go to the places we know and love without checking out what else is available!  One weekend a bit ago, we went for a nice drive around the Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, and Bird Rock area.  We so wanted to go to Belmont Park but gave up after driving around a few square blocks for a half hour and unsuccessfully finding parking.  It was one of the first weekends of summer so I guess I can’t be too annoyed.

We ended up in the gorgeous Bird Rock area for brunch and a little beach exploring.  These photos were taken along the cliffs just between Bird Rock and La Jolla.  It’s definitely a great place to pack a picnic and chill to the sound of the waves.

I wore this amazing statement necklace that Tyler brought home for me after a trip with his family.  He picked it out all by himself!  Aren’t you impressed?!  I sure am.  It’s so perfectly me!  I don’t believe you have to wear statement necklaces against boring neutral palettes so I picked out a shirt that was full of similar colors instead.

Denim Jacket Remix

DSC_0066It’s finally that delightful time of year that’s full of warm days and cool nights.  That means layers are essential.  For today’s Take One, Pass It On Challenge item, I’m remixing my Burberry denim jacket to be more of an accessory by tying it around my waist.  It’s part of the look but also practical when the temperatures start to dip.

Denim on Denim Look

DSC_0059Today is day 4 of my Take One, Pass It On Challenge!  Woot Woot!  For those of you that haven’t been following along so far (How Rude!), the challenge is to take one item from my previous look and remix it into a new look!  In my last look I wore these white jeans with a flamingo print top.  Today, they’re being remixed with a Peter Pilotto for Target shirt and jean jacket.  It’s denim on denim without feeling too “Cowgirl Chic.”

I’m keeping up this challenge for a full 30 looks!  Do you think I can do it?!

Take One, Pass It On Challenge

DSC_0101How often do you stand in front of your closet and think, “I have nothing to wear!”  Chances are that’s a total lie and we’re just not feeling creative that day!  That’s why when I read about Sarah’s Real Life Take One, Pass It On Challenge I so wanted in on the fun!  The idea of the challenge is to take one item from the previous day’s look and pass it on to the next look.  For example, today’s outfit is a comfortable flowy top and twill turquoise pants.  I’ll be passing on the top tomorrow for a completely different look!  Then I’ll pick one piece from tomorrow’s look and pass it on to the third day’s outfit!  Get it?!  P.S.- You can’t repeat an item more then once.  So I can’t wear the same shoes for 30 days and call myself a winner… that’s just plain cheating!

It’s so easy to get stuck in a routine of wearing certain tops with certain bottoms.  Most of our stuff is so much more versatile then we give them credit for!  I’m going to try this challenge for a full 30 days!  I know, it sounds totally nuts but it’s time for a closet overhaul without buying a ton of new stuff I don’t really need!  Thanks for the great idea, Sarah!

DSC_0099Today’s look was casual, causal, and more casual… with sparkles!  I mean, isn’t every day better when you’re wearing sparkly shoes?!  These kitty flats are just the pick-me-up I need on a blah morning.  It’s also fun to add an unexpected lip color during the day too. Here I’m wearing Maybelline Lipstick in Vibrant Mandarin.

Silver Pointed-Toe Flats & an Oversize Coat

DSC_0074Sometimes a girl just wants a little comfort.  It was my mom’s birthday last week and she came down to San Diego for a little thrifting, wine tasting, and celebrations.  That meant lots of walking and plenty of different scenarios.  I mean, I don’t exactly want to wear Givenchy heels to the thrift store but I also wanted to feel chic for my favorite wine pub, The Rose.  Some metallic flats and an oversize coat fit the bill perfectly.
