Music Festival Look

DSC_0093I read somewhere recently that said the boho look was dead.  How could boho possibly be dead when music festival season is just getting started?!  I’m choosing to ignore this piece of fashion advice.  To me, music festivals are where we bring out our most Woodstock-worthy attire.  Not to mention hats and long flowy cardigans are just plain practical when you’re standing outside in the blazing sun for hours.

My last look’s hat would be perfect for a music festival so was easily remixed for the Take One, Pass It On Challenge.  This lacy fringe cardigan will look great as I’m dancing too!  These types of festivals can also get super dusty or muddy depending on the weather so be sure to not wear your best shoes.  These beat up old vintage Coach boots are comfortable and if they get more wear it’ll only make them better at this point.  I chose to forgo my usual black eyeliner and kept my makeup to a minimum.  That way, after a long day in the sun, I won’t end up with the dreaded raccoon eyes.  I used MAC pigment powder in Rose Gold for my shadow, dabbed a little underneath for definition, added a touch of mascara and that’s it!

And P.S. – Don’t forget tons of sunscreen!

A NOT Boring Little Black Dress

I’m of the fashion philosophy that nobody remembers the girl in the little black dress.  Now I’m not telling you to get rid of all your LBDs or that every woman shouldn’t have one.  There are occasions that blending in is important (i.e. – your boyfriend’s conservative office party) but even then you can still up your game.  Mixing textures is the best way to up the ante of the standard LBD.  Think a panel of leather, mesh cutout, or suede piping.

And as always, fit is key.  Find one that makes your body look fantastic.  If it’s not perfect, pass on it or have it professionally tailored.  With the laundry list of occasions you will need this dress for, it’s worth it to splurge a little for the perfect dress.  Don’t be that that girl in the ill-fitting boring little black dress that you’ll never wear again because you don’t feel hot in it!  Here are some suggestions for NOT boring LBDs.

LBD

1)  House of Eleven HEIDI Leather & Sequins Dress – $284 – A classic shape with fun panels of leather and sequins.  The panel on the midsection will also add a slimming effect.  BONUS!

2) Lumier Wealthy and Wise Black Dress – $91 – The mesh stripes add an unexpected sexiness to the classic shift dress.

3) Halston Heritage Rose Applique Crepe Dress – $495 – The unique neckline and rose appliques add a little flair to this LBD.

4)  GoJane Key-2-The-Kingdom Dress – $36.10 – Velvet adds a bit more dimension than the traditional matte black while the keyhole cutout is just plain sexy.

5)  B44 Dressed by Bailey 44 Popcorn Knit Lace Body-Con Dress – $208 – Lace is so feminine and beautiful.  This all over  textured lace is a perfect update to a Body-Con dress.

6)  Adrianna Papell Lace Inset Sheath Dress – $138 –  The slimming placement of the lace inset is pure genius!  And the fun tiny sleeves add a modern edge.

7)  Milly Embellished Tulle & Satin Dress – $385 – This is the epitome of what I’m talking about here.  Look at all that texture!  Satin, and tulle, and sheer mesh… oh my!

8) Dolce Vita Wallis Laser Cut Faux Leather Dress – $220 – A laser cut faux leather dress is anything but boring.

How to Update Your Fall Wardrobe and NOT Break The Bank

There is a special place in my heart for Fall Fashion.  I love the colors, the cuts, layers, layers, and more layers!!  I just can’t get enough!  But that being said, I can’t buy every single piece every year or my credit card would burst into flames!  Here are my tips to bring some of the trends for this fall into your wardrobe without having to spend a fortune.

TRY A STATEMENT COAT:

Statement coats in bold prints, angular cuts, loud colors, and mixed fabrics are all over the runway for fall.  But a statement coat is just that… a statement.  And do you really want to shell out a lot of money to make the same statement for all of fall??  Not me!  I’ll be picking up some budget coats to stay on trend but when I’m done with that statement, I won’t have major buyer’s remorse.  Try some of these budget friendly options.

ADD SOME COBALT BLUE INTO THE MIX:

Cobalt is a hot hue this fall on everything from coats, to dresses, to shoes.  You don’t need to spend tons of money on this trend to be stylish.  Try adding just a couple of items for a pop of color to add to your current wardrobe.  Luckily, this color matches with so many other colors that are most likely already in your closet.  Try mixing it with orange, yellow, white, black, grey, or burgundy!

A LITTLE LEATHER, PLEASE!

This fall, leather comes in every shape and form.  Lucky for us, faux leather has come a long way and is surprisingly, well… leather-like!  Picking up some faux leather is a lot more budget friendly than the real alternative and a lot more animal friendly too!  Try a quilted variety for a great on trend look.
